Vicky! Introduce yourself and where you’re from!

My name is Vicky, I’m 21 and I’ve lived in Melbourne my whole life. I’m actually in Sydney at the moment as I do this interview, and being here has actually made me really appreciate Melbourne. At the moment I am not at uni, I’m just working between different retail jobs to save money. One day I hope to go to university - I am interested in Phlebotomy. It’s a quick course and taking people’s blood would be cool.

What are you obsessed with at the moment? What is inspiring you daily?

In terms of things that inspire me, I do love musicals a lot. I don’t know if I’ve necessarily put into practice in the past year, but I love the Dresden Dolls. The lead singer wears a lot of kooky, almost clownish clothing. I love that sort of aesthetic and style.

What is your relationship to fashion and clothes? Where did it all begin?

I’ve got to be honest. I love fashion on other people, but I feel like for myself i am not that fashionable. I love to dress for comfort. Obviously there are things that i really enjoy like leopard print. I love fur and I love girly stuff, but that’s not typically what I actually wear on a day to day basis. My dad’s had a vintage shop for the past couple of years. He’s always had stalls in other vintage shops for as long as I can remember. He doesn’t only work in clothes, but also furniture, which has made me really love the 1970’s. Everything. 70’s clothes, 70’s dresses, 70’s everything.

I don’t typically buy new things often. I’m so lucky that my dad works in vintage because I get first pick of all that stuff. He knows my style and what I like so when he finds certain items, I get them first, obviously. When I was a teenager I used to be nervous to say that I wear second-hand clothes. But now I’m so proud that I get to be in this situation where I've always had cool stuff from my dad, and it’s always been recycled!

What do you wear on a daily basis? What can we expect from a typical Vicky outfit?

On a day to day basis, I definitely choose comfort over anything. I love big flared pants. I love fur coats. I have a bunch of these big sweaters that I keep on wearing. I have so many from RetroStar that I keep on wearing. Also... I love my uggs. I’m a die hard fan. Any opportunity there is to wear my uggs... I will.

What made you want to join the RetroStar Team?

I saw an Ad on the RetroStar Instagram account and I got very excited because I’ve worked in vintage before. Retropolis in Preston and Lost and Found in Fitzroy. I love being around it all, seeing all the clothes and what comes in and out.

Who in the team do you think has the best style? Who’s closet are you raiding?

The person who kills it the most every time I see them is Ofri. I wish I could pull of what she wears. I think she is incredible. She is a mastermind.

What sort of music do you love?

Today I was actually thinking about how everyone at work is so lucky I don’t have control of the music, because I love musicals. They are my number one. I love Mitski. I love 80’s music like Roxy Music. I love The Sound, The Stone Roses, Three 6 Mafia. I love it all.

Which celebrities have the most underrated style?

I love Helena Bonham Carter’s outfits. I love everything about her. She seems like such an eccentric older woman and I can’t wait to be that when I’m older.
