Ofri

Ofri has been working at RetroStar for nearly 3 years. Like most people, she came to the store when she was younger, at about 14, per her friend’s older brother’s recommendation. She quickly fit right in with the team and has become a close friend to coworkers. Her bright, vivacious energy lights up every room she walks into.

What drew you to Retrostar?

In year 8, when my friend took me there, I was like wow, this is the coolest place ever! I bought this really ugly glittery pink teddy bear sweatshirt. I’ve absolutely never worn it, I was just too excited to be there and I wasn’t thinking straight.

I was definitely served by David that day because I’ve got a little mirror selfie in the little round mirror with me and my friend, and you can see David in the background.

(Read David’s interview here!)

Tell me about your favourite clothes? Where do you shop?

I shop a lot on Depop - everything amazing is on Depop, but nowadays most of my closet is from RetroStar because it’s what I am surrounded by constantly. I go to a lot of vintage markets and pop ups as well. I never really buy any new stuff anymore, because it costs a lot of money. You can get more interesting pieces with character when you shop second hand.

I know you are studying something unrelated to fashion, you’re studying law? What is your dream workplace outfit if you could wear anything to the courtroom?

One thing I wish I could wear in the courtroom is just any kind of colour really, because you’re not allowed to. You’ll get looked at funny, which is really unfortunate. I’ve been to the courts a lot and it’s a lot of black suits, maybe grey, maybe brown if you’re feeling really adventurous. But never any colour which kills my spirit, because I love to wear colour.

When you make it to the courts one day, how will you leave your own Ofri mark?!

A lot of the people in the courtroom have great hair. The thing the girls do really well is having amazing hair. There are some of the most defined curls you’ll ever see in your life at the courts. I just wouldn’t expect that. But it does make sense, showing up and showing out for court because you can’t really do anything else. It’s literally all suits! I would wear boots and stockings with a turtle neck. My skirt would be a bit shorter than they’d be happy with.

Outside of the classroom and courtroom, what are your holy grail pieces?

The MiuMiu dragonfly boots from 2008 and the Dior Romantique Trotter bag in pink - I think it’s from 2004.

What is your most favourite piece from RetroStar?

It’s a 70s, Edwardian style baby doll dress. I’m wearing it in the photos. It’s really gorgeous, it's really nice, and it fits me so well. It’s a beautiful shape and when I wear it with my boots it makes me feel so alive! I love it so much.

Is there anything you regret not buying and think about often?

In the first 3 months of working at RetroStar, there was this baby doll slip dress in pink and it was the most beautifully shaped baby doll dress I’d ever seen. Back then I didn’t have the courage to buy or wear it, but I think now I do have the courage and I absolutely would wear it now, so I think about it quite a lot.

What is your biggest fashion regret?

At my Highschool graduation I wore these amazing John Galliano era Dior heels but they were half a size too small for me. We had to do a full lap of the venue, and I kept on stepping on my massive white dress. I tore a bit of the dress off. When I came home my heels were all bloodied and bruised because they didn’t fit me. Now I have blood stains on the shoes which is quite unfortunate because they are a beautiful baby pink. I will wear them again but they have been through a lot!

Beauty is pain as the saying goes. Ofri, you are the coolest!!! I know who’s closet I’m raiding if I have to.

If you could raid someone’s closet, who would it be?

Either Sarah Jessica Parker or Law Roach. Sarah Jessica Parker had it in her contract for Sex and The CIty that every single piece of clothing she wears she gets to keep. Everything you see Carrie wear, Sarah Jessica Parker literally owned it at one point in her life which is a CRAZY collection. Could you imagine the things I’d do for the Galliano dress? The newspaper one she wears in that iconic scene? That would be beautiful.

And Law Roach, which is an easy answer because he’s a STYLIST and the amount of pieces he would have access to would be ridiculous. And if I have access to his closet, do I have access to his clients? Does it mean I have Ariana? Zendaya? The list goes on.

What music are you playing when you supervise?

I really do have 3 set albums that I play when I don’t really know what the vibe is for the day just yet. Number one is Lauryn Hill - The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. Two, Britney Spears - In The Zone. Three, Lana Del Rey - Lust for Life. All incredible albums back to front. No skips. Ooh also lots of Ariana Grande…
