David has been shopping at RetroStar since they were 15 and has been working at RetroStar (RS) for 3 and a half years since being recommended by Matilda, a friend and former staff member. David is predominantly featured on our socials, namely TikTok where they create styling videos, with the latest stock drops, and comedy videos, melding pop culture references with in store experiences.

What are your top 3 albums you’re bumping in store as a supervisor?

I am always playing pop. At the moment it’s definitely Tate McRae, Zara Larsson and SLAYYYTER. My favourite artists of all time would be Lana Del Rey, Charli XCX, Marina and Sky Ferreira.

Devon Lee Carlson. A little bit Madison Beer, a little bit Clairo… and Rose and Tegan, my friends. They are my IT girls.

What underrated fashion advice do you like to recommend to others?

Be an outfit repeater.

Do you shop vintage often and what brands do you look out for?

Yes I do often! I actually look for a lot of vintage Tupperware from the 70s. For clothes, I don’t look for brands, I look for colours. If I’m buying vintage designer it will be handbags and shoes.

What’s your most favourite piece from RS?

Half of my wardrobe is from RetroStar including this whole outfit! All my wool cardigans are my favourite RS pieces.

Style & Identity

Do you subscribe to microtrends?

I follow some trends but I never let it dictate my style. I love cute things and polka dots… so if I participate, I actually like the thing that is popular.

What do you love the most about working here?

I love my coworkers and getting dibs on cute clothes. I love having a chat with customers, especially an older queer person. I love talking to the dolls, always.
